This project is included in the Renew Arkansas Highways program that the voters approved through the extension of the 1/2 cent sales tax. The Department is currently working to prioritize these projects based on statewide needs. However, project development is underway for the Springdale Northern Bypass. The Department has funding allocated for right of way acquisition for the western portion of the Springdale Bypass. Additionally, the right of way acquisition process is underway for that project.
How does this project relate to the ongoing Western North-South Connector Study?
In Benton County, local officials have suggested that a highway connection from the proposed Highway 612 (Springdale Northern Bypass) to Highway 549 (Bella Vista Bypass) west of Interstate 49 and in the vicinity of the Northwest Arkansas National Airport could improve regional mobility.
This planning level study is the first effort in understanding if there is a need for a new roadway and where it could be built and will inform long-term transportation plans for the region. While the Western North-South Connector study does show a possible connection to the proposed XNA Access Road, it is not a part of the current XNA Access Road study.
